Cocoa Mountain Cafe and Chocolaterie, Balnakeil

It's amazing that I have come all the way from New York City to find the best
truffles in the world. And such a spot to find them!

Cocoa Mountain Cafe and Chocolaterie, Balnakeil
Welcome to Balnakeil. Relax and smile. Enjoy stunning scenery and savour our fine artisan truffles and chocolates, served with 'the best' Hot Chocolate, or Mountain Mocha, fair-trade, organic coffee - cappuccino, latte, espresso, or teas, organic cold drinks, all with first class customer service

In the heart of the North-west Highlands Geo-Park, Cocoa Mountain Balnakeil is located in Durness, near to Balnakeil Bay and other long golden beaches, sea cliffs, puffins, and extraordinary sand dunes. It overlooks Loch Croispol, teaming with trout and home to otters, and has views towards majestic peaks such as Arkle and Fionaven to the south, and westwards toward Cape Wrath - Europe's “last great wilderness”

Balnakeil Craft Village

Balnakeil Craft Village is home to a number of craftspeople and artists, who can be seen working from studios where individual pieces of art are available to purchase.

The Craft Village is unique. The striking-looking buildings were built as a military station during the Cold War, that was never commissioned. In the 60's the Village was 're-cycled' and became home to craftspeople from around the world who moved to live and create works of art inspired by the isolation, landscape and seascape. Today the Village has a bookshop and restaurant that is open all year, and seasonal businesses that open Easter to October. Residents include: Artists, printmakers, woodworkers, crafts in glass and enamels, book-making, weaving, aromatherapy, musical instrument repair, and boatbuilding. And chocolate-making, of course!

A short account of the Craft Village from one resident and artist, can be read at
