Balnakeil Craft Village

Balnakeil Craft Village is home to a number of craftspeople and artists, who can be seen working from studios where individual pieces of art are available to purchase.

The Craft Village is unique. The striking-looking buildings were built as a military station during the Cold War, that was never commissioned. In the 60's the Village was 're-cycled' and became home to craftspeople from around the world who moved to live and create works of art inspired by the isolation, landscape and seascape. Today the Village has a bookshop and restaurant that is open all year, and seasonal businesses that open Easter to October. Residents include: Artists, printmakers, woodworkers, crafts in glass and enamels, book-making, weaving, aromatherapy, musical instrument repair, and boatbuilding. And chocolate-making, of course!

Cocoa Mountain BALNAKEIL is located in the Balnakeil Craft Village , half a mile north-west of Durness - the most north-westerly village on mainland Scotland.

Travelling north from Inverness to Durness, it is impossible not to travel through breathtaking scenery. We would recommend travelling via Bonar Bridge and Lairg taking the A838 from Laxford Bridge, OR the glorious west coast route via Ullapool, OR via Thurso, Bettyhill and Tongue on the North Coast
